Beyond-the-borders Hungarian thesis project awarded by the Hungarian Garden Heritage Foundation

Graduating landscape architecture students at the Sapienta Hungarian University of Transylvania (SHUT) have received their diplomas. The thesis on the renewal of the garden of the Benedek Elek Memorial House was awarded a special prize by Albert Fekete, visiting lecturer of the university and member of the board of trustees of the Hungarian Garden Heritage Foundation.

On July 12, 2022, the final exam and graduation ceremony of the landscape architecture programme, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, took place at the campus of the SHUT, in Marosvásárhely. The variety in topics and high quality of the thesis projects presented at the final exam proved the effectiveness of the training and the determined and consistent work of the students. Four out of the eighteen successfully defended thesis projects received excellent marks, as follows:

Eszter Dani: Landscape revitalization of the Main Square of Kézdivásárhely (Târgu Secuiesc) and strengthening the green component of the urban open space network. Consultant teachers: Endre Kentelky, Kázmér Kovács

Tünde Lőrincz: Renewal of the garden of the Benedek Elek Memorial House. Consultant teachers: Anna Imola Henning, Kázmér Kovács

Kriszta Nagy-György: Botanical survey, restoration plan and proposed nature trail of the Nagyrét Bog in Gyergyóremete (Remetea). Consultant teachers: Endre Kentelky, Erzsébet Domokos

Henrietta Vajda: Landscape plan of Tündérvölgy in Kovászna (Covasna). Consultant teacher: Endre Ványolós The Examination Committee – in which Albert Fekete also represented the Foundation – unanimously decided that Tünde Lőrincz’s thesis project entitled “Renewal of the garden of the Benedek Elek Memorial House” received the award of the Hungarian Garden Heritage Foundation. The prestigious work was acknowledged with the Hungarian Garden Heritage Foundation professional award for the heritage conserving, realistic and sustainable renewal proposal for one of the gems of the Hungarian garden heritage beyond the borders of Hungary.
